nope. it hasn't been. that's just the generic and poorly done character designs by the mangaka and the character designer for the anime. if you look at the mangaka's work, he only has about 10-15 'facial designs' that he does. he differentiates most characters by their accessories, hairstyles, and clothing. you can see this in several of the anime-only characters who appear to be 'twins' with some of the regulars and semi-regular characters.

actually, no it's not unusual. this is because professionally she uses her Maiden name as a lawyer. but she actually did take Kogoro's last name legally. they're only physically separated AKA living in two different dwellings, not in the process of a divorce.

also, Kogoro like most Japanese married men does not wear a wedding ring. wedding rings on either spouse aren't even traditional per. se. in Japan in the first place. wearing matching rings only started to be 'popular' with married couples since the 1920's. with the rapid 'Westernization' of Japan, girls who wanted to be 'fashionable' or 'look European' wanted an engagement ring and then a wedding ring after the ceremony. the groom/husband(s) even today in Japan don't often receive/wear a ring during the ceremony. some guys do, but most don't.
